Light Nelson is for the whole community – everyone is encouraged to get involved by coming along to enjoy the spectacle, helping with a community project, submitting a proposal for an installation or volunteering to help at the event itself.

Luminaries

The Luminaries are a pivotal group who together provide significant support to the Light Nelson Trust to help us stage this event – and very importantly – keep it free.
While we have great support from the Nelson City Council, funding agencies and corporate sponsors, we know there other people and small businesses who would love to show their support.

Benefits for Luminaries who donate more than $500 include:

  • An invitation for up to two people to the launch event
  • Light Nelson Enews to keep up with developments
  • A mention in full credit listings on our website (if desired)
  • A family or guest pass for the special preview event on Thursday 6 July.

Volunteers

Put yourself in the light and be part of this fantastic community event!

From crowd control to face painting, staging Light Nelson and keeping it free and safe takes a few hours from people like you – our wonderful volunteers.

This year Light Nelson will run over five nights from 6 - 10 July, open to the public from 5.30 – 9.30pm each evening. We will also have a special preview evening on 5 July for our sponsors, media partners and all our volunteers.

It’s a great event to be part of! Sure you need to rug up, but your reward is in the wonderful comments from our audience…and the shining eyes of little kids in their pyjamas who are laying down lifetime memories of the very special community they grew up in.

To spread the load we require over 100 volunteers for the event, each ideally committing to 2 or 3 shifts over the five nights. Each shift will be just 2.5 hours as we will rotate helpers over a spilt shift schedule.
